2010 Inland Seas Music Festival: Celebrating the Great Lakes

Family Festival Day at Inland Seas Planned for
July 17

The 2010 Inland Seas Music Festival will take place on Saturday, July 17, 2010 from 10:00am - 5:00pm on the waterfront at the Inland Seas Education Center in Suttons Bay.

"Song of the Lakes" to be Feature Attraction
The Inland Seas Music Festival will provide live music from several area groups throughout the day. Performances on the main stage include:
  • 10:00 - 11:15am - "Handy Billy"
  • 11:30am - 2:00pm - "Wild Sullys"
  • 2:30 - 5:00pm - "Song of the Lakes"
Live music will also be provided down by the boardwalk, with the "Interlochen Ensemble-Brass Quintet" performing in the morning and "Handy Billy" performing in the afternoon.

5K Schoolship Run will Kick Off the Festival
This year's Inland Seas Music Festival will begin at 9:00am with a 5K Schoolship Run along scenic Lake Michigan. It is only $30 to participate, and all racers who register before July 7th will receive a t-shirt and water bottle. A lite snack will also be provided after the race. Age group awards will be presented during a ceremony after the race. Click here to register.

Area Organizations to Participate
Displays and hands-on activities will be provided by numerous Great Lakes organizations, including: Rebecca Lessard and some live raptors from Wings of Wonder will be on the main stage at 2:00pm. This educational program will outline the wonders of raptors, their habitat needs, environmental issues, endangered and threatened status, and wildlife ethics and wildlife stories. This is a program you cannot miss!

Dockside Tours
The Great Lakes Schoolship Inland Seas will be available for tours from 10:00am - 5:00pm. Tours will be provided by some of ISEA's 200 professionaly trained volunteers.

Family Sails
Short sails will be offered to families aboard ISEA's Friendship Sloop Liberty from 10:00am - 11:30am, 12:30pm - 2:00pm, and 3:00pm - 5:00pm. The cost is $20, with a limit of 6 people on each sail. Sign up for a sail on the day of the event under the big tent.

Wide Selection of Food
A variety of food will be served throughout the day from local restaurants, including House of Doggs, The Silvertree Deli, 45th Parallel Cafe, and Candy World.

Annual Raffle to Feature Hand-Made Abenaki Canoe
The winners of a hand-made Abenaki canoe built in the ISEA Boat Shop by volunteers, a Boardwalk D7 folding bicycle from Brick Wheels, and dinner for four at Trattoria Stella will be announced at the conclusion of the event. Raffle tickets are available for $10.00 from ISEA staff and board members.

Family Activities
All day activities for the entire family include wetland walks, fish painting, hat making, and more. Don't miss the first ever carp bash at 2:30pm under the big tent.The annual Inland Seas Music Festival is an event for the entire family.
