Maritime or Nautical Archaeologist
Maritime Archaeologists study the past. This may involve studying and classifying artifacts from shipwrecks or studying prehistoric settlements. Maritime archaeologist attempt to piece together how people lived and worked on the Great Lakes. Many archaeologists work for academia as researchers. Some act as consultants to companies doing work in or near the water and appraise sites so as not to disrupt archaeologically important areas. State and federal agencies, such as the National Park Service, hire archaeologists.
